The Hollywood Sign is a cultural icon and a landmark in Hollywood, California, United States. It is located on Mount Lee in the Santa Monica Mountains' Beachwood Canyon area. The word "Hollywood" is written in white capital letters 45 feet tall and 350 feet long. It was built in 1923 as a temporary advertisement for a local real estate development, but due to its growing popularity, it was kept up until 1978, when it was replaced with a more durable all-steel structure.
