At the age of 78, Mahatma Gandhi, an Indian freedom fighter, was killed in New Delhi by a fellow freedom warrior in 1948.
Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Gujarat's Porbandar as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He acquired his higher education in England before returning to India and spearheading the liberation movement against British authority. His beliefs have been emulated over the world, and he is regarded as a textbook on 'living the right way.' He was affectionately known as 'Bapu,' and he exuded truth, nonviolence, and simplicity. Gandhi had previously survived five attempted assassination attempts prior to the eventual fatal blow on January 30, 1948.
