He was first recognised for his love roles, but he has subsequently taken on roles in action films and thrillers, and he has received multiple honours, including three Filmfare Awards. Kapoor was born in New Delhi, the son of actors Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem, and began dancing at the age of ten at Shiamak Davar's dance academy. Kapoor began her career as a background dancer in a few films in the 1990s, and she later starred in music videos and television advertisements. In 2003, he made his film debut as the lead in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk, a sleeper success for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
