She was one of the most popular and highly paid Indian actresses of her day, known for her acting range and attractiveness. Bharti began her film career as a teen while undertaking pin-up modelling tasks. She made her debut in the Telugu-language romantic action film Bobbili Raja (1990), alongside Venkatesh, and then in the commercially disastrous Tamil-language film Nila Pennae (1990). She played minor parts in films such as Naa Ille Naa Swargam (1991) and Assembly Rowdy (1991). Rowdy Alludu, a romantic comedy, was Bharti's first commercial triumph (1991).
