Somdev is the first tennis player in the world to win a gold medal in men's singles tennis at the Commonwealth Games, and the first Indian to earn a gold medal in men's singles tennis at the Asian Games. He won gold at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, and made history by winning gold at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. He is also the second (2nd) Assamese tennis player to reach the international tennis stage, following Bidyut Goswami.
