The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth states took place at Westminster Abbey in London on June 2, 1953. On the death of her father, George VI, on 9 February 1952, she ascended to the throne at the age of 25, and was proclaimed queen by her privy and executive councils shortly afterwards.
