Pranab Kumar Mukherjee was an Indian statesman who served as the country's 13th president from 2012 to 2017. Mukherjee was a top politician in the Indian National Congress and held numerous cabinet positions in the Indian government over his five-decade political career. Mukherjee served as Union Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012 before being elected President. In 2019, his successor as President, Ram Nath Kovind, bestowed on him India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.
