Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, better known as Mootharignar Rajaji, was an Indian leader, writer, lawyer, and freedom campaigner who lived from 9 December 1878 to 25 December 1972. Rajagopalachari served as India's final Governor-General before the country became a republic in 1950. He was also the first governor-general to be born in India, since all prior governors-general had been British nationals.
