Her father, Frank Handrich, was a German graphic and industrial fair designer, architect, artist, and interior designer, and her mother, Deepa, was a landscape and interior designer. She currently works as a volunteer counsellor at drug treatment centres. Dia debuted in regional cinema with Bengali filmmaker Pratim Dasgupta's festival favourite Paanch Adhyay in 2012.
