Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in the Chicago neighbourhood of Hermosa, Illinois. He spent the most of his boyhood in Marceline, Missouri, where he began drawing, painting, and selling his work to neighbours and family members. In 1911, his family relocated to Kansas City, where he acquired an interest in railways. Because of the popularity of his early cartoons, he was able to establish his own studio, Laugh-O-Gram. However, his ability to operate a lucrative corporation did not equal the popularity of his cartoons.
