Benazir Bhutto was a Pakistani politician who served as the country's 11th and 13th prime ministers, from 1988 to 1990 and 1993 to 1996, respectively. She was the first woman to lead a democratic administration in a country with a Muslim majority. She headed or co-chaired the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from the early 1980s until her assassination in 2007. She was an ideological liberal and a secularist. On December 2, 1988, she was sworn in as Pakistan's Prime Minister. Bhutto was the first female Prime Minister of a Muslim-majority country and Pakistan's second democratically elected Prime Minister.
