The first photo of Earth taken by a spacecraft from near the Moon was sent to Earth on August 23, 1966. The image was sent from the Lunar Orbiter I to Earth and received at the NASA tracking facility in Robledo De Chavela, which is close to Madrid, Spain. The picture was taken during the 16th orbit of the spacecraft.
