Leonardo da Vinci, an Italian painter, sculptor, physicist, and visionary, was born in 1452 in Vinci, Florence, Italy.
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, recognised as one of history's most creative and imaginative geniuses, was born in 1452 in a hamlet near the Tuscan town of Vinci. He was raised on the family estate in Anchiano by his paternal grandparents as the illegitimate son of Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci, a Florentine notary, and Caterina, a peasant girl. Leonardo's father married a sixteen-year-old girl named Albiera, with whom he had a deep relationship but who died while Leonardo was little. Leonardo was the oldest of 12 siblings, and his illegitimacy was never seen negatively by his family.
