Guru Arjan Dev gathered writings to form Guru Granth Sahib, the eleventh and living Guru. He is also known as Shahido ka Sartaj, or the martyr's crown. He was the Sikhs' first martyr. Guru Arjan Dev was Guru Ram Das's youngest son, born on April 15, 1563 A.D. at Goindwal. Prithvi Chand and Mahadev were his two older brothers. The first brother, Prithvi Chand, was ambitious and of a blemished temperament, while the second brother, Mahadev, was a recluse with little interest in worldly activities. Arjan Dev was an educated poet and youngster with a peaceful and religious personality. He was obedient, sensitive, and devoted in his prayers to God.
