Thousands take part in Japan’s ‘Naked Festival’

Thousands of men recently stripped off celebrating ‘Hadaka Matsuri’, an annual naked festival from Japan’s Honshu Island. At the Saidaiji Temple in Okayama Prefecture, the competitors gathered to seek prosperity and fertility. They had to snatch one of two ‘shingi’ wooden sticks thrown into the crowd. The sticks, thrown with 100 bundles of twigs, aim to bring a year of good fortune to the lucky ones who catch them.
