Almost half a billion animals have been wiped out in Australia’s devastating wildfires with fears of entire species may have been killed. Ecologists have estimated 480 million mammals, birds and reptiles have been killed since September with the figure most likely to continue to increase. The raging fires have ripped through Victoria and New South Wales in the last few days, leaving so many people dead or missing.
