According to an assessment by the non-profit research group Global Energy Monitor, methane leaking from proposed coal mines around the world could be more harmful to the climate than carbon emissions from coal plants in the United States. "Coal mine methane has dodged scrutiny for years even though there's clear evidence it poses a significant climate impact," said Ryan Driskell Tate, a Global Energy Monitor research analyst.
