Evidence from a new study of several thousand patients suggests men have higher concentrations of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) in the blood system than women. Since ACE2 channels the coronavirus to infect healthy cells, this may now help to find out why men are more susceptible to COVID-19 than women. ACE2 is not only found in lungs, but also the heart, kidneys and the tissues lining blood vessels.
