David Dushman, the last living veteran who helped free Auschwitz-Birkenau, passed away on Saturday aged 98, according to a statement on the website of the Jewish community of Munich and Upper Bavaria. As a soldier in the Soviet Red Army during World War II, he helped liberate the Jews from Nazi concentration camps. Charlotte Knobloch, the president of the local Jewish community, dubbed Dushman the "Hero of Auschwitz."
