Facts about Sam Manekshaw, India’s first field marshall

Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw was born on 3rd April 1914 and was popularly known as Sam Bahadur. He married Siloo Bode in 1939 and has 2 daughters. He fought in 5 wars over his 40-year career. He was awarded the Victoria cross in 1942, Padma Bhushan in 1968 and Padma Vibhushan in 1972. He was the first officer to be made field marshall of the army, in 1973. He passed away of pneumonia in 2008.
