A common virus that usually causes cold-like symptoms was responsible for more than 100,000 deaths in children under the age of five across the globe in 2019, according to a new study published in The Lancet journal. The study is the first to examine the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease burden in narrow age brackets, reporting that there were over 45,000 deaths in infants under six months old in 2019.
