China fears further decline in birth rate as country sees sharp fall in marriages

The number of marriages in China last year dropped to a 36-year low, accentuating the world's second-largest economy's demographic crisis as experts say this will add to the declining birth rate in the country. A total of 7.63 million couples registered to get married across China in 2021, a record low for the past 36 years since 1986 when the Ministry of Civil Affairs started to release such statistics.
