Shimla
Shimla derives its name from Shyamala Devi, the incarnation of the goddess Kali, whose early 19th-century temple existed in the thick forest that covered Jakhu Hill. Shimla is Himachal Pradesh's capital and was also India's pre-Independence summer capital. Shimla is surrounded by pine, deodar, and oak forests covering an area of 25 sq km at a height of 7,238 ft.
