Aryabhatta
Aryabhata, also known as Aryabhata I or Aryabhata the Elder, was an astronomer and the first Indian mathematician who lived in 476, probably in Ashmaka or Kusumapura, India. His work and history are available to modern scholars. To differentiate him from a 10th-century Indian mathematician of the same name, he is also known as Aryabhata I or Aryabhata the Elder. He flourished in Kusumapura, near Patalipurta (Patna), the Gupta dynasty's capital at the time, where he wrote at least two works, Aryabhatiya (c. 499) and the now-lost Aryabhatasiddhanta.
