Spy
In this Paul Fieg feature, starring Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law got to show off his acting chops. He plays Bradley Fine, the Field Agent. Susan Cooper, McCarthy's character, is infatuated with Fine and works back at the CIA as his remote assistant. Cooper is pushed into the field to hunt him down when it appears Fine has been assassinated. Law is a triple spy, claiming to work for the enemy while also supporting the CIA, we learn later. In this funny film that also stars Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, Miranda Hart, Bobby Cannavale, and Allison Janney, Law is charismatic as the bumbling but friendly Bradley Good.
Wilde
Oscar Wilde (Stephen Fry) is a married writer who for male suitors has rarely indulged his vulnerability. Wilde debuts a stage comedy in London after a lot of hard work, and a conversation with Lord Alfred 'Bosie' Douglas (Jude Law) at the theatre leads to a full-on relationship. Wilde winds up in a court battle with the father of Lord Alfred, the Marquess of Queensberry (Tom Wilkinson), and is taken to prison because of local anti-gay rules. The enormous intelligence of Wilde makes him survive until he regains his liberty.
