Best featured songs on How I met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother is as closely associated with music as it is with Ted's future wife. From Robin Sparkles to "You Just Got Slapped," the show has produced a slew of original songs. However, it has also made clever use of popular songs to create many memorable, emotional scenes. Posted On July 20th, 2021
"Downtown Train" - Everything But The Girl
We're all disappointed by the widely panned series finale, but you can't deny that the meeting between Ted and The Mother is both sweet and justified in bringing the entire story together. This in no way diminishes "Downtown Train," the song that made us believe in happy endings for those few minutes.
"Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit" - Barney/Neil Patrick Harris
Nobody could have predicted that an entire dance number would be featured on the show, let alone one so elaborate. Here, Barney imagined a whole musical-styled song to go with his love of suits, and we were invited to join him. Neil Patrick Harris, being the enormously talented man that he is, had us wowed with his dancing skills, and the show's prop and costume departments deserve apologies.
"The Funeral" - Band Of Horses
As it turned out, the song's title, "The Funeral," foreshadowed The Mother's death all along. But, at the time, it did a good job of telling us to hang on because Ted's storey was coming to an end in a couple of years.
"Shake It Out" - Florence And The Machine
Before Taylor Swift told us to "Shake it Off," Florence and the Machine and How I Met Your Mother told us to shake out our problems. After a tumultuous episode in which Ted realized his mistake and Robin didn't love him after all, the episode required a powerful song to send the audience home.
"This Modern Love" - Bloc Party
After Friends ended in 2005, How I Met Your Mother was the hip, cool new show on the scene, and the younger generation responded very well to songs being used to play up the story. Season 1's "This Modern Love" made the final moments a must-see, and it remains one of the show's top moments.
"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" - The Proclaimers
When played repeatedly due to the tape being stuck in Marshall's car stereo, the song can make anyone sick of it, only to grow on the listener so much that they start belting out the lyrics as well. It's a wacky song that has earned a place in every How I Met Your Mother fan's heart.
"Hey Beautiful" - The Solids
We can't talk about the iconic theme song without mentioning it, can we? A simple 13-second intro was all that was required to keep How I Met Your Mother bouncing around in everyone's heads for nearly a decade, and we still can't stop smiling whenever we hear it.
"La Vie En Rose" - Edith Piaf/Cristin Milioti
This song has always been a timeless classic, and hearing it performed on a ukulele is something else entirely. It is entirely dependent on the actress's performance, as her heart is bared with her feelings of being alone and unsure of what she wants. It can be interpreted as a heartbreaking ballad or as a song that evokes some of The Mother's hope for better days ahead.
