Tinkle
There are very few people in India who did not read Tinkle when they were young. It is a fortnightly magazine that was first published in 1980 and is one of the most popular Indian comic books. Suppandi, Shikari Shambhu, Ram & Shyam, and other characters in the magazine are absolutely hilarious and delightful.
Chacha Chaudhary
The short, red-turbaned Chacha Chaudhary, along with Chachi, Rocket (dog), and Sabu, his tall assistant from Jupiter, were a hit with many of us. In the comic, Chacha's mind outperformed the computer, implying that a strong mind is more powerful than a massive body.
Amar Chitra Katha
The format and style of the comics, which were intended to teach children about Indian culture and social heritage, made children fall in love with them. It is now available in 20 Indian languages and has a steady readership, with millions of copies sold.
Tenali Raman
Tenali Raman, a famous scholar during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 16th century CE, was adored by the children for his remarkable wit, brilliance, and wisdom. He had an answer for every problem that arose in Krishnadevaraya's kingdom. The mere mention of the comic conjures up some of our fondest childhood memories.
Bahadur
Aabid Surti created the first Indian comic book Super Hero, Bahadur (The Brave One), in 1976. Bahadur, by the way, appeared on the scene at a time when the dacoit menace was at its peak in north India. As a result, the comic series focused heavily on swindlers.
Chandamama
Chandamama, known for its illustrations, published long-running mythological and magical stories that ran for years. Its distinct story-telling format instilled moral values without being preachy. Its final issue was published in 2013.
Akbar-Birbal
Akbar-book Birbal's was both humorous and informative, making it a must-read for everyone. Birbal's ability to outwit the other ministers in Akbar's court made us all laugh out loud. What made these stories so successful was Birbal's ability to provide simple and humorous solutions to complex problems.
