More than three decades before Katherine Bigelow became the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar, Italian filmmaker Lina Wertmuller made history by becoming the first woman to win a nomination for the award, back in 1977, for the film 'Seven Beauties'. On Thursday, Wertmuller, a protege of Federico Fellini, passed away at the age of 93.
