After Saudi Arabia admitted its role in the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called the incident 'heinous' and 'painful', while speaking at the country’s Future Investment Initiative summit conference in Riyadh. He said that those guilty would be brought to justice. He also discussed Khashoggi's killing with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on a phone call.
