Nirbhaya case: Vinay Sharma moves Supreme Court against mercy plea rejection

Vinay Kumar Sharma, one of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case, has moved the Supreme Court challenging rejection of his mercy plea by the President of India. Sharma filed a mercy petition for the commutation of his capital punishment to a life sentence. However, President Ram Nath Kovind rejected his plea on February 1. The four convicts were sentenced to death but the executions have been left dragging.
