Nirbhaya case: SC rejects mercy plea of Pawan Gupta who claimed he was a minor in 2012

The Supreme Court today dismissed a mercy petition filed by Pawan Gupta, one of the four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape murder case. The court said Gupta need not be treated as a minor after he said in his plea that he was a minor in 2012. A bench led by Justice R Banumathi dismissed the plea. Gupta had contended that he was a juvenile on 16 December 2012 when a 23-year-old paramedic on her way home was gang-raped.
