Ashish Lata Ramgobin, a 56-year-old great-granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison in connection with a six-million-rand fraud and forgery case. Lata Ramgobin was accused of defrauding businessman SR Maharaj, director of the New Africa Alliance Footwear Distributors, who allegedly paid her 6.2 million Rand in advance for clearing import and Customs duties for a non-existent consignment from India.
