In the deadliest ever massacre to hit Niger, armed jihadists killed 137 people in villages near the country's border with Mali, presenting another challenge for President Mohamed Bazoum. "In treating civilian populations systematically as targets now, these armed bandits have gone a step further into horror and brutality," said government spokesman Zakaria Abdourahamane. The government has announced 3 days of national mourning.
