18 killed in shootout between rival drug gangs in Mexico

As many as 18 people got killed after a shootout broke out between rival drug cartels in Mexico. The incident happened in a remote area of northwestern Zacatecas state on Friday. The country has witnessed a huge surge in drug-related violence in the past few years. More than 300,000 people have lost their lives since 2006 due to the violence. The government is forced to deploy federal army troops to fight the drug gangs.
