Vietnam has started to purchase rice from India for the first time in decades after local prices jumped to their highest in nine years. Vietnam is the world's 3rd biggest exporter of rice and the sudden jump in local prices of the grain has resulted in Vietnam and Thailand purchasing the grain from India. BV Krishna Rao, president of the Rice Exporters Association, said Indian traders have contracts to export 70,000 tonnes of rice.
