Retail inflation based on CPI spikes to over 5-year high of 7.35% in December

The govt data showed that retail inflation based on CPI spikes to over 5-year high of 7.35% in December last year as against 5.54% in Nov mainly on account of rising vegetable prices. The number was 2.11% in Dec 2018. Spike in inflation in the vegetable segment was 60.5% during the month as compared to Dec 2018. Food inflation rose to 14.12% in Dec while it was 10.01% in Nov 2019. The inflation in pulses & products was 15.44%.
