Govt became richer by Rs 939 cr from the taxes on online ads on Google, Facebook

In the last fiscal, the collection of tax from online advertisements has shot up by 59% year-on-year to reach Rs 939cr in the year. There is a 6% equalization levy imposed on Indian businesses to a non-resident service provider offering digital advertising in the country. There is an opportunity for growth in the digital economy as well as tax revenue from this sector, and a part of it is the online advertisement sector.
