The past few months have not been good for India in terms of economic growth with GDP growing at just 5 percent in April-June 2019. Amid the economic slowdown, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation announced that it will decide the new base year for the GDP series in the next few months. According to reports, the Ministry could consider 2017-18 as the new base year instead of 2011-12.
