France has declared an €8bn rescue plan for its car industry, which has been severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic. President Emmanuel Macron's proposal sees €1bn to give grants of up to €7,000 to back citizens to purchase electric vehicles. It also channels money toward investments to make France a centre for electric vehicle production. Renault and PSA have already promised to focus on production in France.
