In late 2019, Flipkart set up FarmerMart, a food retail business which would sell locally-produced food items. But DPIIT rejected Flipkart’s food retail proposal. Flipkart intends to reapply for a food retail license after failing to get DPIIT’s nod. Amazon struggled for almost 18 months to start its food retail ops after approval.
