China directs financial, payment institutions to stop cryptocurrency transactions

In a major jolt for the cryptocurrency community, China has ordered financial institutions and payment companies in the country to stop providing services related to cryptocurrency transactions. "Recently, cryptocurrency prices have skyrocketed and plummeted, and speculative trading of cryptocurrency has rebounded, seriously infringing on the safety of people's property," a joint statement by three industry bodies read.
