South Korea seeks IOC ban on controversial Japan flag

A controversial flag has become the latest talking point in the increasing tension between South Korea and Japan as Seoul recently asked the International Olympic Committee to ban the use of the flag at the Tokyo Games next year. The 'Rising Sun' flag is an ensign for Japan's Maritime Self-Defence Forces since 1954. However, in East Asia, it’s a symbol of the country's military aggression during World War II.
