No immersion of idol in Ganga and its tributaries, says Government; Rs 50000 fine for violators

The Central Government has decided to put a complete ban on idol immersion in the Ganga and its tributaries. The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has issued a directive to the Chief Secretaries in 11 Ganga basin states. The directive was issued after a meeting between representatives of states and NMCG officials last month. The govt issued a 15-point directive that included a fine of Rs.50000 in case of idol immersion.
