10 years back on this day a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket in its XL configuration carried India’s first space probe ‘Chandrayaan’ to the moon. Its aim was to map the whole surface of the moon including the side not visible from earth. It was on 24 Sept 2009, when NASA announced that their instrument onboard Chandrayaan had detected water. It was expected that the mission will last for 2 years but it lasted for 10 months.
