Scientists have detected the first geological evidence of an interconnected system of water reservoirs deep beneath the surface of Mars. These underground former lakes may hold minerals that play a key role in the existence of life. A new study on data from the Mars Express satellite has revealed the system’s extent based on features at the bottom of deep craters that could only have been created by water.
