An MIT study suggests that earliest forms might have come from ponds, not oceans. Researchers believe the key ingredient for jumpstarting life-Nitrogen was present in high concentrations in shallow ponds in the form of nitrogenous oxides that could react with other compounds, giving rise to 1st living organisms. In deeper oceans, UV rays & dissolved iron would have made nitrogen less available; making the origin of life difficult.
