Bianca Andreescu becomes first teen in US Open semis since 2009

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu became the first teen US Open semifinalist since 2009 after beating Belgium’s Elise Mertens and set up a last-four clash with Belinda Bencic. The 19-year-old Toronto girl downed Mertens 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 while her fellow Slam semifinal debutante Bencic beat Croatian Donna Vekic 7-6 (7/5), 6-3. Either Bencic or Andreescu, who have never faced each other, will make it to her first Slam final.
