2 NASA astronauts spacewalk for 6 hours to change the old batteries and replace with new ones on the ISS. A total of 12 nickel-hydrogen units was replaced with 6 lithium-ion batteries. New batteries give enhanced power capacity for operations with a lighter mass & a small volume; & also stores power generated by solar arrays that are used when it's not in the sunlight while orbiting Earth. ISS crew has till now led 214 spacewalks.
