Due to increased fares, domestic air passenger traffic grew by a mere 16.53% during May 2018. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that 11.9 million passengers travelled by Indian carriers this May. The increase in fares occured due to the rise in fuel price. Despite the high fares, Spicejet had the highest passenger loading factor of 94.8%, followed by Indigo at 91% and AirAsia India at 89.7%.
