British Airways have announced to retire all of its Boeing 747 fleet with immediate effect after the sharp travel downturn sparked by COVID-19 pandemic. The 747s represent nearly 10% of the UK airlines' total fleet. British Airlines had planned to retire the 747 feet in 2024 but preponed the date due to the travel downturn. Airlines over the globe have been hit hard due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
